Job Summary
Responsible for supervision and management of assigned nursing area to provide comprehensive continuity of established nursing care delivery while adhering to the policies and procedures of Riyadh Care Hospital and reflecting the mission, vision and objectives of the Nursing Department and hospital in a client focused manner.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

- Practice in a manner which is always client centered and fitting to an excellent Private Hospital, reinforcing the impression that the hospital regards the client (patient/family) as the focal recipient of excellent care, respect, friendly communication and professional behavior
- Practice in a manner which avoids the patient or family having any negative feeling, complaint, distress or bad impression of nursing care or the hospital
- Take immediate action to resolve or clear any negative impression, complaint or distress expressed in any way by the patient or family
- Job Competence
- Perform all managerial functions in the area and provide leadership that incorporates Nursing philosophy, vision, mission, objectives and standards in order to facilitate the delivery of high quality patient care
- Assist staff with clinical issues through the use of the nursing process, and appropriately advise personnel in making accurate decisions
- Review nursing care plans to maintain the ongoing nursing process which includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
- Maintain discipline, high morale and harmonious relations through effective leadership
- Remain current regarding nursing practice, developments and trends
- Act as a clinical resource. Advise and assist nurses whenever required
- Promote patient-centered care and autonomous professional practice

- Coordinate nursing services with those of other departments for optimal patient care
- Ensure compliance of nursing staff with all established policies and procedures
- Direct staff in emergencies. Coordinate nursing disaster response
- Report activities, problems & actions to Director of Nursing (DON)in daily activity report

- Work cooperatively as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality care
- Make rounds with team members and physicians to determine an effective nursing care approach to patient needs and problems
- Promote a positive work environment conducive to productive, collegial relations among all members of the health care team
- Notify DON of the admission of any VIP patients or patients requiring special attention
- Promote optimum patient/visitor relations in assigned area

- Complete minimum of 2 full sets of rounds per shift to assess overall functioning of the patient care areas, to ascertain condition of patients & ensure correct staffing levels
- Receive and give report from each patient care area regarding census, status and acuity and other identified problems relating to staff, visitors and patients
- Develop manpower, material and equipment budgets as requested
- Assure the preparation of staffing schedules, matching patient care needs with personnel qualification and experience and re-assign staff when necessary
- Monitoruse of supplies, instruments and other equipment allocated to assigned areas and instruct all nursing staff as to how cost can be reduced/minimized
- Coordinate staffing for area, including call-ins, increased workload & sick relief

- Develop objectives for the area in response to area needs which are in line with the hospital and department objectives
- Participate in the initiation, formulation, revision and evaluation of the effectiveness of overall nursing services, as well as overall nursing objectives, policies and practices
- Support and monitor the KPIs and Quality Improvement systems in the area and evaluate outcomes of patient care
- Chair/participate in and report on Nursing/Hospital committees, unit staff meetings and special projects
- Complete all relevant documentation including daily and monthly reports and statistics, area manager flow chart, internal audit sheets
- Provide suggestions on how to improve patient services and the quality of care
- Investigate occurrences/variance/accidents as per process involving appropriate staff and take appropriate disciplinary action with incidents that require immediate attention
- Evaluate employees yearly, or as required, recommend developmental objectives and monitor follow-up. Make necessary recommendations to DON
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for positive change
- Investigate complaints on assigned shift and report results to the DON
- Personal and Professional Development
- Provide leadership, supervision, functional guidance and development activities for the head nurse in the area and encourage problem solving andcritical thinking skills
- Identify the learning needs of staff in the area & conduct on site teaching sessions in coordination with the nursing education unit.
- Monitor and assess the professional development of nurses in clinical areas
- Promote own professional and education development
Management of Resources and Environment
- Monitor utilization of manpower, supplies and resources and general expenditure for area, ensuring economical and efficient operations
Reporting to
- Director of Nursing and Deputy Director of Nursing
Supervises
- Head nurses and all the staff nurses in his/her assigned units.
Qualifications
A minimum of:
Education/Licensure:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Master degree in Nursing and post Graduate Certificate in Leadership is preferred.
- Current Licensure (RN) with a nursing governing body from country of origin
- Professional Nursing License from Saudi Council for Health Specialties
Professional Experience:
- 7 years’ experience in an acute care hospital with at least four years as a Nurse Supervisor or Area / Unit Manager.
Competencies/Skills:
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Ability to work in multi-cultural environment.
- Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Good in customer care, able to work in multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledgeable in computer applications, MS office (Word, excel, PowerPoint).
- He / She must be creative, flexible and have critical thinking skills.
- Supervisory skills including problem solving skills.
