Role Description The Class 1 Chief Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Al Khobar, responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all vessel machinery and technical systems. Day-to-day tasks include supervising engine room operations, monitoring performance of propulsion and auxiliary systems, planning and executing preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring all work complies with class, flag state, and company standards. The role oversees technical documentation, spare parts inventory, and maintenance records, and collaborates with the Master and shore-based technical teams on voyage planning, fuel optimization, and repair schedules. The Chief Engineer leads and mentors engineering staff on board, conducts safety drills, enforces safe working procedures, and participates in incident investigations and root-cause analysis. The position also involves coordinating with shipyards, contractors, and surveyors during dry-docking, inspections, and equipment upgrades.
Qualifications

• Candidates should possess a valid Class 1 Chief Engineer license or equivalent certificate of competency for seagoing vessels.
• Candidates should possess strong marine engineering skills, including operation and maintenance of propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and engine control systems.
• Candidates should possess skills in maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and use of diagnostic tools for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Candidates should possess knowledge of safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, classification society rules).
• Candidates should possess leadership and crew management skills, including mentoring, task allocation, and performance supervision of engine room staff.
• Candidates should possess effective communication and reporting skills for coordination with the Master, shore management, surveyors, and contractors.
• Candidates should possess proficiency in technical documentation, record keeping, and use of computerized maintenance management systems.
