Job Description Summary
The Senior Dental Assistant performs specialized Dental Assistant tasks that support dentists and dental therapists during clinical procedures to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
Operational Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist dental therapists and dentists in a wide range of procedures including diagnostic operative surgical periodontal preventive orthodontic prosthodontic endodontic and pedodontic treatments during patient examinations and procedures
- Place and remove of rubber dams temporary restorations and polishing of restorations periodontal dressings matrices intracoronal provisional restorations and retraction cords and basesliners
- Take alginate impressions for study models
- Remove surgical sutures
- Apply Topical fluoride application including foam and varnish
- Polish clinical crowns to remove stains as well as fabricate and cement provisional crowns and bridges including removal of excess cement
- Process Preliminary charting and suture removal
- Perform clinical supportive functions such as preparing and dismissing patients sterilizing and disinfecting instruments and equipment providing postoperative instructions maintaining supplies and keeping accurate records
- Fully participate in fourhanded dentistry working closely with the dentist to enhance procedural efficiency
- Work across various Dental Services facilities as assigned receiving supervision and technical guidance from the dentist and reporting to the Supervisor of Dental Support
- Provide guidance and support to Associate Dental Aides
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor Degree in Dental Assisting
Professional Certifications Required
SCFHS Certification as applicable
Years of Experience
Minimum of 6 years' experience
