SportsAid Eastern is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Redmond as its new Director, following Jane Horridge’s decision to step down from the role.

Derek Redmond brings extensive experience from elite sport and athlete development. A former world-class 400m sprinter, he was a key member of the British 4x400m relay team that won gold at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo and achieved further success at European level. During his athletics career, Derek broke the British 400m record and represented Great Britain at both the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Since retiring from competitive athletics, Derek has worked across sport, leadership and performance development, drawing on his experience at the highest level of competition. His background gives him a strong understanding of the demands placed on athletes throughout their sporting pathways.

Following four successful years as Regional Director, during which SportsAid Eastern saw growth in both regional and local sponsorship, the introduction of new Sporting Lunch clubs and a more cohesive management structure across the region, Jane Horridge has decided that the time is right to step back from the role and focus on her global strategy consulting and leadership development business.

Commenting on the transition, SportsAid Eastern Chair Melanie Beck MBE DL said: “We are pleased to announce Derek Redmond as Director of SportsAid Eastern. His experience within elite sport and his understanding of athlete development will support the organisation as it continues its work across the region. We would also like to thank Jane Horridge for her contribution and commitment during her time as Regional Director.”

In his new role, Derek will focus on supporting SportsAid Eastern’s regional network, working with partners and sponsors, and continuing to champion young athletes as they progress through their sporting pathways.
