Expression of Interest: Principal Statistician / Technical Lead

We are seeking expressions of interest from an experienced Principal Statistician / Technical Lead to support an upcoming national-scale survey and data analytics project in the education sector.

The project is expected to involve large-scale stakeholder feedback, survey data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting to support quality improvement and evidence-based decision-making across the higher education ecosystem.

Role Overview

The Principal Statistician / Technical Lead will provide overall technical leadership, analytical direction, and quality oversight across the project. This role will be responsible for setting the statistical methodology and analytical approach, ensuring technical consistency across all workstreams, and providing final review and sign-off on key analytical outputs.

The role requires a strong combination of advanced statistical expertise, experience in measurement and evaluation, and familiarity with academic quality and accreditation environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall technical direction across all project items and analytical workstreams.
• Set the statistical methodology, analytical framework, and technical approach.
• Oversee sampling, estimation, data analysis, and quality assurance methodologies.
• Ensure analytical outputs are statistically sound, consistent, and fit for reporting.
• Provide quality oversight across data processing, quantitative analysis, qualitative inputs, indicators, dashboards, and reports.
• Review and validate methodologies, assumptions, outputs, charts, tables, and findings.
• Lead final technical review and sign-off for key deliverables.
• Provide guidance to statisticians, data scientists, analysts, and reporting teams.
• Ensure outputs align with quality, accreditation, measurement, and evaluation requirements.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should hold a Master’s or PhD in one of the following fields:

• Data Science and Analytics
• Measurement
• Evaluation
• Statistics
• Or a related field

In addition, candidates should have:

• Teaching experience
• Academic administration experience
• Understanding of quality and accreditation regulations

Required Experience and Expertise

Candidates should have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, ideally including:

• Statistical leadership on large-scale survey or research programs
• Measurement and evaluation methodology
• Sampling, statistical estimation, and data quality assurance
• Technical review and sign-off of analytical outputs
• Higher education, academic quality, accreditation, or institutional evaluation
• Leading multidisciplinary analytical teams
• Developing methodologies for national, institutional, or public-sector reporting
