Role Goals and Objectives:

The Environmental Specialist will support compliance and monitoring activities for various environmental projects.

This role involves conducting ecological field surveys, assessing biodiversity and habitat impacts, implementing mitigation measures, and producing detailed reports based on collected data. The primary objective is to ensure regulatory compliance, support sustainable project operations, and promote biodiversity conservation throughout

project life cycles.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed field surveys for terrestrial flora, fauna, avifauna, and habitat conditions. This includes identifying species, assessing physiological and structural health, documenting the abundance and life stages of vegetation, and mapping habitat zones.
• Apply recognized scales (e.g., DAFOR, SACFOR) for assessing the abundance and conservation status of species, utilizing IUCN Red List and High Conservation Priority species designations to identify ecologically significant populations and sensitive areas.
• Conduct baseline and ongoing assessments to determine potential impacts on habitats and biodiversity during project construction, operation, and decommissioning phases. Assess conditions such as soil composition, water quality, and air quality, with a focus on potential disturbances from project activities.
• Collaborate with project teams to implement specific mitigation actions outlined in Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs). This includes practices to reduce soil erosion, prevent species disturbance, minimize noise, and control air and water pollution.
• Prepare comprehensive environmental impact reports, including baseline findings, field survey results, and ecological assessments. Develop actionable recommendations based on observed conditions and support the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
• Participate in post-construction assessments, recommending actions to support habitat restoration, soil stabilization,

and vegetation re-establishment where project activities have impacted natural landscapes.

• Collaborate with regulatory agencies, local communities, and stakeholders by providing project updates and addressing environmental concerns. Ensure all activities meet international environmental standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles) and national regulations, including NCEC rules.
• Record, analyze, and manage environmental data using data processing tools and software. Maintain organized records of ecological surveys, stakeholder communications, and compliance documentation to support reporting and project transparency.

Skills and Attributes:

• Expertise in environmental impact assessment, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem monitoring, with familiarity in species classification and ecological survey methods.
• Skilled in survey techniques for flora, fauna, and habitats; data management and analysis; and environmental

reporting tools. Knowledge of soil sampling, water testing, and air quality monitoring.

• Strong understanding of international standards (e.g., IFC, Equator Principles) and regional environmental laws, with specific familiarity in NCEC rules. Able to interpret and apply guidelines for environmental protection, sustainable development, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong written and verbal skills in Arabic as well as in English to effectively document field findings, write technical

reports, and engage with various stakeholders.

• High level of accuracy in field data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure credible ecological assessments.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s / master’s degree in environmental science, Ecology, or related engineering fields.
• Minimum of 7-8 years of experience in environmental compliance, ecological monitoring, or similar fieldwork, preferably with large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
• Certification in environmental impact assessment or monitoring (preferred).
• Familiarity with NCEC rules, environmental software, data management tools, and reporting formats for regulatory compliance.
