Role Description The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Operator & Locator is a full-time, on-site role based in Jiddah. This position is responsible for operating HDD rigs and related equipment, setting up drilling sites, and safely executing bore paths according to project plans and utility maps. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring drill progress, locating and tracking underground utilities, adjusting drilling parameters, and maintaining accurate records of depths, locations, and materials used. The role involves performing routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting mechanical or operational issues to minimize downtime. The HDD Operator & Locator will collaborate closely with field crews, site supervisors, and safety personnel to ensure adherence to safety standards, local regulations, and client specifications, while maintaining a clean and organized job site.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience operating Horizontal Directional Drilling rigs and locating equipment, with strong understanding of bore planning and execution.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting utility drawings, site plans, and technical diagrams, including use of locating and tracking systems.
- Solid knowledge of equipment safety, construction site procedures, and relevant local regulations and standards.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance, basic mechanical troubleshooting, and pre/post-operation inspections on HDD rigs and support equipment.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with site supervisors and field crews.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, including lifting, standing, and operating equipment for extended periods.
- Prior experience in utility installation, pipeline, or underground infrastructure projects is highly beneficial.
- Relevant vocational training or certification in heavy equipment operation or HDD techniques is an advantage.
