Summary:

The CSSD Supervisor oversees daily operations of the Central Sterile Supply Department, ensuring efficient processing, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and supplies. This role provides leadership, training, and quality oversight while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and supporting optimal patient care through sterile processing excellence.

Functional Responsibilities:

• Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the CARE Hospitals and Clinics.
• Supervise daily workflow and staffing assignments for decontamination, sterilization, and distribution processes
• Monitor departmental productivity and turnaround times to meet surgical schedule demands
• Coordinate with OR schedulers to anticipate instrument needs and prioritize processing
• Manage emergency and STAT requests ensuring rapid response times
• Oversee equipment operation and maintenance schedules for sterilizers and washers
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing of supplies and materials
• Manage departmental budget and control operational costs
• Ensure proper storage and rotation of sterile supplies
• Coordinate with biomedical engineering for equipment repairs and maintenance
• Track and analyze departmental metrics and performance indicators
• Maintain accurate sterilization records and quality assurance documentation
• Prepare reports on departmental performance and quality indicators
• Document staff training and competency assessments
• Ensure proper incident reporting and corrective action documentation
• Support external inspections and accreditation surveys
• Collaborate with surgical services, nursing units, and other departments
• Participate in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives
• Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding instrument needs
• Coordinate with environmental services and infection control teams
• Serve as departmental liaison for administrative meetings
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, AAMI, CDC, and other regulatory standards
• Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards, hospital infection control and safety protocols to adhere to international standards, such as AAMI, APIC, AORN, OSHA and FDA
• Ensure the standard precautions related to CSSD are implemented, including wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE), receiving and handling of contaminated instruments, chemical storage and usage.
• Implement and monitor quality control procedures for all sterilization processes
• Conduct regular audits of instrument processing and documentation
• Investigate and resolve quality issues or sterilization failures
• Maintain biological and chemical indicator testing programs
• Review and update departmental policies and procedures
• Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for CSSD staff
• Ensure all technicians maintain required certifications and continuing education
• Conduct competency assessments and skills validation
• Provide specialized training on new equipment and procedures
• Coordinate with infection control and other departments for cross-training
• Participate in Recruit, interview, and select qualified CSSD technicians process
• Provide orientation and ongoing training for new and existing staff members
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback
• Create work schedules ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts
• Address staff concerns and resolve workplace conflicts professionally
• Recognize and reward outstanding employee performance
• Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge. skills and abilities.

Minimum Job Qualifications Requirement

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Science field with a recognized CSSD-related certification approved by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS); OR
• Completion of a CSSD Technician Training Program or participation in the Allied Health Saudi Career Development Program.
• Valid registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as Specialist.
• Valid BLS, MOH license and BICSL

Minimum Work Experience:

• Minimum 5 years experience in sterile processing operations
• Minimum 2-3 years supervisory or leadership experience in healthcare setting
• Demonstrated knowledge of sterilization principles and infection control practices
• Experience with regulatory compliance and quality assurance programs
