DPI Performance Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a DPI Performance Engineer to monitor, analyse, troubleshoot and optimise Deep Packet Inspection platforms and associated network services.

The successful engineer will work across DPI platform health, subscriber and application traffic, KPI/KQI performance, capacity utilisation, traffic trends, RCA and continuous optimisation.

You will collaborate with Core, IP, Internet Gateway, BNG/UPF, PCRF/PCF, OCS, AAA, Transmission, Planning and Operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Monitor DPI platform CPU, memory, throughput, PPS, sessions, subscriber capacity and utilisation.
• Analyse application traffic, classification accuracy and traffic trends.
• Investigate traffic spikes, drops, shifts and abnormal behaviour.
• Monitor throughput, latency, RTT, packet loss, connectivity and other service-quality indicators.
• Maintain DPI performance dashboards, reports, KPI/KQI views and thresholds.
• Troubleshoot service degradation and conduct detailed RCA.
• Correlate DPI issues across Core, IP, BNG/UPF, IGW, PCRF/PCF, OCS and AAA domains.
• Perform traffic-growth and capacity forecasting.
• Recommend capacity expansion, traffic redistribution and optimisation actions.
• Conduct pre/post-change performance analysis for upgrades, migrations and configuration changes.
• Work with DPI vendors on advanced troubleshooting.
• Automate reporting and analysis where appropriate.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of DPI concepts and platform architecture.
• Strong IP networking and TCP/IP knowledge.
• Understanding of Internet and subscriber traffic flows.
• Application identification and traffic-classification knowledge.
• Network performance monitoring and KPI/KQI analysis.
• Strong troubleshooting and RCA capability.
• Knowledge of BNG, PGW/UPF, PCRF/PCF, OCS, AAA, IGW and IP Core environments.
• QoS and network-performance knowledge.
• Linux and common network troubleshooting tools.
• Ability to analyse large datasets.
• 3-5+ years' relevant telecom/network experience.

Nice-to-Have

• Hands-on DPI capacity/performance experience.
• Python and/or SQL.
• CEM/SQM platforms.
• DPI upgrade, migration or expansion experience.
• Capacity forecasting and optimisation.
• Direct DPI vendor engagement experience.
