About the role:
The job holder is responsible for overseeing commercial design development process by directing conceptual, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing timelines, approving change requests, and providing guidance on corrective actions to achieve operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning
- Contribute to the development of Commercial Design business plan ensuring alignment with KSIADC strategy
- Develop the operational plan for Commercial Areas Design in line with Commercial Design business plan and Design strategic plan
- Implement plans and provide input to enable achievement of Commercial Areas Design goals that support KSIADC’S overall strategic plans
Budget Management
- Discuss Commercial Areas Design budgeting requirements with top management and provide input to the budgeting process
- Ensure effective utilization of Commercial Areas Design budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered
- Ensure effective utilization of the Commercial Areas Design budget and report accurately any deviations from set budget
Commercial Areas Design
- Review the analysis outcome of factors such as operational demands, regulatory constraints and future aviation growth and oversee preliminary studies like feasibility studies and site inspection to form a clear understanding of existing conditions and facilitate strategic decision-making related to commercial areas design
- Direct the development of conceptual design for commercial areas, defining the purpose and the scope and establishing the layout to set the stage for a well-coordinated and efficient commercial areas design process
- Review commercial areas design proposals, technical specifications, and material requirements to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards and frameworks
- Oversee the design of retail and shopping spaces including duty-free and pop-up shops to ensure attraction of travelers and cater to diverse passenger preferences
- Monitor the placement of food and beverage outlets ensuring the establishment of quick-service restaurants and cafes to provide fast and convenient dining options, as well as the design of full-service restaurants to offer relaxing and enjoyable dining experiences for passengers
- Supervise the design of well-equipped lounges and wellness facilities to create a comfortable experience for travelers
- Ensure the setup of spaces for banking kiosks, ATMs, and currency exchange counters to address passengers financial needs conveniently
- Ensure the integration of accessibility features such as ramps, elevators, and wide pathways to ensure ease of movement for travelers with disabilities
- Oversee the optimization of the layout of commercial areas to enhance visibility and accessibility while maintaining efficient passenger flow
- Direct technical assessments on proposed designs, focusing on construction feasibility, design impact, and environmental considerations, to define risks and provide guidance on appropriate mitigation strategies
- Approve detailed design packages and technical documentation, including schematics for commercial areas layouts, to provide clear instructions for design execution
- Oversee the establishment of technical standards for materials to ensure durability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance
- Provide guidance on the identification of all the licenses and permits required for launching the design execution
- Monitor the acquisition of permits and regulatory approvals to ensure all designs meet aviation-specific requirements
- Direct the alignment of commercial areas design schedules with broader aerodrome development timelines, addressing potential delays and prioritizing critical milestones
- Define budget for commercial areas design projects, overseeing cost estimation for materials, labor, and equipment to ensure alignment with project budget
- Monitor the development of construction guidelines and manuals for contractors, emphasizing quality assurance protocols, inspection checkpoints, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards
- Conduct regular site visits to oversee the implementation of commercial areas designs, ensuring progress aligns with approved plans and addressing deviations with related stakeholders
- Ensure proper testing and commissioning of related design, such as retail space layouts and passenger flow systems to validate operational readiness
- Approve raised change requests ensuring all proposed adjustments align with established design standards and the overall project objectives
- Provide guidance on needed corrective actions to address delays or quality concerns, ensuring timely resolutions
Policies, Processes and Procedures
- Lead the design and implementation of Commercial Areas Design policies and procedures covering all areas of activity so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering high impact and achieving results effectively and efficiently
- Stay abreast of best practices to enable continuous improvement of systems, processes, and policies related to Commercial Areas Design
- Remain abreast of Commercial Design leading practice and new trends, and identify recommendations for corrective measures, updates and improvements where required
Stakeholder Management
- Establish working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders
- Collect feedback from stakeholders on issues being faced and other requirements in order to identify barriers and develop action plans
- Actively gain exposure and insights to local market development, business opportunities and the existing regulatory landscape
- Attend related forums, seminars, etc. to enrich network and learn about the latest developments and opportunities
People Management
- Participate in the identification and recruitment of key talent
- Guide, mentor and support direct reports in order to execute duties according to set policies and processes
- Develop individual performance objectives, provide necessary support, evaluate/appraise team and provide regular feedback on performance
- Establish a high-performance working environment and promote KSIADC values.
Education
- A Bachelor’s Degree in in Civil Engineering, Architecture or equivalent is required
- A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent is preferred
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience in similar role or equivalent with at least 4 years of experience in a managerial position
