Job Title: Mechanical Technician
Job Purpose:
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems at the wastewater treatment plant to ensure reliable operation, minimize equipment downtime, maintain asset integrity, and comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with approved maintenance schedules.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain pumps, motors, valves, sludge handling systems, piping systems, and other mechanical equipment within the wastewater treatment plant.
- Conduct routine inspections to verify equipment reliability and identify abnormal operating conditions.
- Diagnose mechanical failures, perform repairs, and replace defective components as required.
- Carry out equipment disassembly, assembly, alignment, and installation activities.
- Assist in the maintenance of aeration equipment, mixers, conveyors, rotating equipment, and other mechanical systems.
- Perform lubrication activities and monitor lubricant levels in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations.
- Record maintenance activities, equipment history, and repair details using the organization's maintenance documentation or CMMS.
- Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and permit-to-work requirements while performing maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and ensure proper use of tools and equipment.
- Coordinate with Operations, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams to ensure continuous and efficient plant operation.
- Participate in scheduled shutdowns, emergency maintenance, and plant commissioning activities when required.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the direct supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Experience:
- Previous experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, or industrial facilities is preferred.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment commonly used in wastewater treatment plants.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills.
- Proficiency in using mechanical tools, measuring instruments, and maintenance equipment.
- Understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
- Commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and on shift schedules when required.
