Nafoud Al Athereia Contracting Company is seeking an experienced finance professional to lead its accounting operations across contracting, infrastructure, and Operations & Maintenance projects.

Job Title: Chief Accountant - Contracting & O&M

📍 Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Role Objective:

To lead the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, financial closing, budgeting, project-cost accounting, and management reporting while ensuring accurate financial records, effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, and clear visibility of project and company performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise the company’s daily accounting and financial operations.

• Manage the accounting team, distribute responsibilities, review outputs, and ensure the timely completion of all financial tasks.

• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll accounting, employee advances, petty cash, and bank reconciliations.

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes and ensure the accuracy of all closing entries and account reconciliations.

• Prepare annual budgets, periodic forecasts, cash-flow projections, and budget-versus-actual variance reports.

• Establish, maintain, and monitor cost centers for each project, department, and operational activity.

• Monitor actual project costs against approved budgets and identify cost overruns, unrecorded commitments, and financial risks.

• Prepare project profitability reports and analyze revenue, direct costs, overhead allocation, margins, and expected final results.

• Review project progress invoices, certified work, retentions, advances, subcontractor invoices, and related accounting entries.

• Ensure the proper accounting treatment of work in progress, project revenue, accrued income, accrued expenses, provisions, and project commitments.

• Apply appropriate revenue-recognition and cost-allocation principles for contracting and long-term projects.

• Monitor customer collections, supplier payments, aging reports, and working-capital requirements.

• Oversee bank accounts, financing facilities, letters of guarantee, letters of credit, transfers, and related reconciliations in coordination with the Treasury function.

• Prepare periodic financial statements, management reports, cash-position reports, and financial-performance dashboards.

• Ensure compliance with approved financial policies, delegation-of-authority limits, internal controls, and supporting-document requirements.

• Coordinate with Projects, QS, Cost Control, Procurement, HR, Treasury, and Executive Management to ensure accurate and complete financial data.

• Manage VAT, withholding tax, Zakat-related requirements, and submissions in coordination with the company’s tax and external advisors.

• Coordinate with external auditors and provide all schedules, reconciliations, confirmations, and supporting documentation required for the audit.

• Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, closing checklists, reporting templates, and financial workflows.

• Support the implementation and effective use of Odoo or other ERP systems and ensure accurate project and cost-center data.

• Provide management with early warnings regarding liquidity, project losses, delayed collections, cost overruns, and financial-control weaknesses.

Qualifications & Mandatory Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and financial experience.

• At least 10 years of relevant experience within contracting, infrastructure, construction, or Operations & Maintenance companies.

• Previous experience as a Chief Accountant, Head of Accounts, or in a similar supervisory position is required.

• Proven experience in preparing budgets, financial statements, cash-flow forecasts, and management reports.

• Strong practical experience in project accounting, cost centers, project profitability, work in progress, progress invoices, retentions, and subcontractor accounting.

• Strong understanding of banking transactions, financing facilities, letters of guarantee, letters of credit, and treasury controls.

• Good knowledge of IFRS and accounting requirements applicable to contracting and long-term projects.

• Familiarity with Saudi VAT, withholding tax, Zakat requirements, and ZATCA procedures.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting and ERP systems; practical Odoo experience is highly preferred.

• Previous professional experience in Saudi Arabia is highly preferred.

• CMA, SOCPA, CPA, or an equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.

• Strong leadership, analytical, reporting, problem-solving, and team-management capabilities.

• Professional proficiency in Arabic and English.
