Basic Function

Practices clinical Otorhinolaryngology, providing routine and emergency diagnostic and therapeutic care to all eligible patients. Participates in the planning and implementation of integral preventative-curative medical care programs.

Experience

At least 2 or more years' exclusive practice of otorhinolaryngology since certification.

Education

Graduation from an approved medical school plus internship and 4 years of residency; possession of a valid license to practice medicine; certification by the American Board of Otorhinolaryngology; or by the Canadian or UK Royal College of Physicians.

A. U.S. / Canadian.

1. Board certification following graduation from an approved medical school plus internship and 5 years of residency in an approved training program.
2. At least two years of practice or clinical fellowship experience.

B. U.K., Australia, New Zealand.

1. College membership following 5 years of training in approved programs.
2. At least three years of total training shall have been as a registrar or senior registrar.
3. At least two years of practice or clinical fellowship experience.

C. Scandinavia (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway).

1. Considered equivalent in quality to U.S/U.K. training.
2. Five years of training in an approved residency program.
3. Certification to be evaluated on an individual basis.
4. At least two years of practice or clinical fellowship experience.

D. Other Western Europe (Germany, Belgium, Holland, Austria).

1. Five years of training in an approved residency program.
2. Certification to be evaluated on an individual basis.
3. At least two years of practice or clinical fellowship experience.

Scope

Clinician functions individually, and as a member of the ENT division, providing the full range of diagnostic care for all disorders of the ears, nose, throat and head and neck regions, as appropriate, with medical treatment and surgical intervention being the active modalities of care. Pathology of these areas, evaluation and treatment, includes but is not limited to, congenital, developmental, infectious or inflammatory, neoplastic, and traumatic presentations.

Practices under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Senior Otolaryngologist and the Division Chief, and may be responsible for the evaluation and supervision of physicians in training assigned to the division. Standards of care are in accord with those established by JHAH, which have been designed to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, and specialists in the course of the work.

Principal Duties

A. Performs professional duties of an Otorhinolaryngologist.

B. Provides consultation to other physicians when the problems fall into the field of ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery, and require the attention of a specialist. This includes diagnosis and treatment if patient's primary problem is in this field.

C. Completes medical records promptly indicating diagnosis, treatment, and future courses of action. Records must conform to established requirements.

D. Participates in all group conferences requiring the viewpoint and opinions of this specialty regarding difficult medical cases.

E. Collaborates with other departmental personnel in planning programs integrating the curative and preventive aspects of total patient care. Is responsible for the operation of approved curative- preventive programs as they relative to his particular field.

F. Daily answers questions concerning irregular work and problems that arise in the group such as handling technical, safety, and accident problems.

G. Monitors work of other assigned staff to the Otorhinolaryngology Service for quality, quantity, correctness,

etc., demonstrating procedures or recommending additional training as required.

H. Attends staff meetings and participates in in-service activities as requested.

I. Contacts supervisor for clarification or to keep him informed of unusual situations or problems encountered and actions taken.

J. Assures that all medical regulations are observed by assigned personnel to the degree delegated by supervisor.

K. Advises assigned personnel as concerns all matters necessary to harmonious relationships.

L. Advises assigned personnel as concerns infringement of medical or Company rules that prevent assignments or responsibilities of the group to be properly met.

M. Advises supervisor on assigned personnel's performance and other administrative matters so that appropriate action may be taken.

N. Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested.

Certifications/Other requirements as applicable

• Ability to adjust to group practice in an industrial environment involving an understanding of corporate organization, personnel administration, wages and salaries administration and accounting practices.
• Must be well versed in principles and practices of industrial medicine.
• Good physical and mental condition.
• Affirmative recommendations.
