Safety / HSE Director
Job Purpose
Lead and manage the overall Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function for a major construction project, ensuring compliance with company standards, local regulations, and international HSE requirements. The role will be responsible for developing and implementing HSE strategies, policies, and systems across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the project HSE strategy, plans, policies, and procedures.
- Provide leadership and direction to the HSE team across all project areas.
- Ensure full compliance with Saudi regulations, client requirements, and international HSE standards.
- Monitor HSE performance, KPIs, inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
- Lead risk assessment, hazard identification, incident prevention, and emergency response programs.
- Investigate major incidents and ensure effective root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure contractors and subcontractors comply with approved HSE requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and management reviews.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the project workforce.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Construction, Engineering, and Client/Consultant teams on all HSE matters.
- Prepare and present HSE performance reports to senior management and project leadership.
- Ensure effective environmental management and compliance with project environmental requirements.
- Lead safety training, awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Engineering
- 15+ years of HSE experience, with significant experience in major construction projects.
- Mandatory experience on mega projects and/or large-scale building construction projects.
- Experience working with Tier 1 international/main contractors is highly preferred.
- Strong experience in high-rise, hospitality, mixed-use, commercial, infrastructure, or other complex building projects.
- Previous experience in a HSE Director / HSE Manager / Head of HSE position.
- Strong knowledge of international HSE standards and construction safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
- GCC/Saudi Arabia construction experience is preferred.
- Professional HSE certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent is preferred.
