The role

A private family seeks an experienced physician to provide clinical review, medical research, patient advocacy and care coordination for Dr. Hamad, who is receiving complex oncology treatment. The role requires proactive clinical judgment: reviewing the complete medical picture, anticipating complications and presenting practical pathways to address current problems and future risks.

You will work closely with the patient, family and treating specialists in Saudi Arabia and internationally, translating findings into clear recommendations, timely decisions and coordinated follow-through.

Key responsibilities

·      Comprehensive clinical review. Review all medical reports, laboratory trends, imaging reports and available images, pathology, genomic results, procedure notes and treatment history. Identify changes, discrepancies and missing information, and obtain specialist clarification when needed.

·      Clinical pathways and prevention. Present a prioritised forward plan after significant results or changes in condition. Identify potential complications, appropriate investigations, specialist assessments and opportunities for intervention, explaining urgency, benefits, risks and how options fit the overall treatment plan.

·      Research and treatment opportunities. Evaluate relevant guidelines, emerging treatments, clinical trials and supportive or integrative approaches against the patient’s diagnosis, molecular profile, condition and goals. Distinguish established options from investigational approaches and assess safety, interactions, eligibility and access.

·      Specialist coordination and advocacy. Identify appropriate subspecialists, arrange second opinions and multidisciplinary reviews, prepare consultation briefs and complete record packages, and follow through on unanswered questions, recommendations and referrals.

·      Medication and symptom oversight. Maintain an accurate medication and supplement list; review potential interactions, side effects and monitoring needs. Coordinate with oncology, nutrition and supportive care providers to address symptoms, intake, function and quality of life.

·      Monitoring and urgent escalation. Agree a monitoring and escalation plan with the treating team, review new results promptly and recognise changes requiring urgent assessment. Maintain an emergency summary and clear out-of-hours contacts.

·      Communication and organisation. Provide concise, understandable updates to the patient and family. Maintain secure records, results trackers, a treatment timeline and medical calendar; coordinate appointments, procedures, home care and approved medical travel.

Qualifications and experience

·      A medical degree and current physician registration, with appropriate licensing for any clinical practice undertaken in Saudi Arabia.

·      At least five years of clinical experience, including meaningful experience in oncology or management of complex medical cases. Internal medicine or oncology training is preferred.

·      Demonstrated ability to interpret medical reports and laboratory trends, assess clinical risks and formulate reasoned recommendations for specialist discussion.

·      Strong skills in evidence appraisal, medical literature searches, clinical trial research and translating findings into patient-specific options.

·      Experience coordinating care across specialists and hospitals; international referrals and second opinions are highly desirable.

·      Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English, including clear communication of medical information; proficiency with digital records, spreadsheets and patient portals.

·      Willingness and ability to travel internationally at short notice.

Working arrangements

Based on site in Riyadh, six days per week, with on-call availability for urgent medical matters and international travel as required. Accommodation will be provided. The role reports to the designated family representative for operational matters and works collaboratively with the treating medical team.

Expected outputs

A current clinical summary and prioritised action plan; timely interpretation of new reports with recommended next steps; an up-to-date medication list and monitoring plan; consultation briefs and documented follow-up; and a concise weekly update covering progress, risks, outstanding decisions and relevant treatment opportunities.

Urgent concerns must be escalated immediately. Routine results summaries should ordinarily be provided within 24 hours of receipt, with any necessary specialist confirmation clearly identified.

Clinical responsibility and confidentiality

The physician is expected to exercise clinical judgment and provide recommendations within their competence and authorised scope of practice. Treatment and prescribing decisions must be coordinated with the responsible treating specialists and undertaken only with appropriate clinical authority and patient consent. All records and family information must be handled securely and confidentially.
