Job Purpose
To ensure that all forging products meet internal quality standards and customer specifications by implementing and maintaining effective quality control processes. The Quality Control Engineer plays a critical role in minimizing defects, improving production efficiency, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and certifications.
Job Responsibilities
Quality Inspection and Control
- Drive the QC procedure implementation across the forging shop as per the organization procedure and expectations
- Controlling of non-conforming product within the plant as per the NCR procedure including the internal NCR management
- Preparation of forging ITP and product inspection plan for both internal & external to ensure the product quality
- Perform quality inspections on raw materials, in-process components, and finished products related to forging in accordance with material standards and API 20B requirements
- Record inspection results and analyze quality data to identify trends and issues
- Manage the day-to-day inspection activities in the forging shop floor
- Liaise with third party inspection agencies for the inspection and related activity
- Responsible for final product clearance as per the quality requirements.
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement
- Analyze root causes of defects and establish corrective and preventive actions
- Provide quality feedback to improve production processes.
Quality System Management
- Maintain and improve quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and APIQ1
- Manage the customer or third-party audit along with QA.
Inspection Equipment Management
- Manage calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment
- Operate equipment to ensure measurement accuracy.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quality control within a manufacturing environment, preferably in heavy open die forging
- Experience or knowledge in API Q1 and 20B is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in using inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM, ultrasonic testers)
- Familiarity with quality inspection such as visual and NDE methods
- Understanding of metallurgical properties and heat treatment processes
- Casting visual and NDE inspection
- Exposure to ASTM / EN standards related to casting industry
- Well versed knowledge on the API Q1 and 20B related to the forging process.
Certifications
- NDE ASNT / ISO 9712 Level II.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication skills
- Good working knowledge on MS Office.
