Job Title : Senior Civil Engineer

location: Saudi Arabia

Role Purpose

The Civil Engineer supports the delivery of civil and infrastructure works, including roads, pavements, utilities, and external works, by assisting in the coordination, review, and implementation of design and construction activities on site.

Working under the guidance of the Senior Civil Engineer and reporting to the Civil and Structural Design / Technical Manager, the role contributes to shop drawing reviews, site inspections, and technical coordination to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

The role is primarily site-focused, supporting day-to-day construction activities and resolving technical issues. As part of this, the Civil Engineer is expected to actively contribute to basic drafting, detailing, and preparation of sketches or redline drawings where required (e.g., temporary works, utility diversions, road adjustments, coordination fixes), ensuring timely and practical solutions without over-reliance on dedicated drafting resources.

Key Activities

Site & Construction Support (Civil & Infrastructure)

• Provide day-to-day civil engineering support on site, addressing construction queries, RFIs, and technical clarifications.
• Review civil and infrastructure works (roads, pavements, drainage, utilities, external works) to verify compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Identify site issues, discrepancies, or non-conformances and report them to the Senior Civil Engineer.
• Coordinate civil activities with architectural, structural, MEPF, and temporary works to avoid clashes and execution conflicts.
• Support inspections, testing, and quality checks for civil and infrastructure works.
• Prepare and update sketches, mark-ups, and simple civil drawings/details to support construction activities (e.g., utility routing adjustments, levels coordination, temporary works layouts).
• Assist in producing redline drawings and as-built markups based on actual site conditions.
• Provide hands-on drafting support (AutoCAD/Revit/Civil 3D as applicable) when required to resolve site issues efficiently.
• Ensure all sketches/drawings issued are clear, coordinated, and aligned with approved design intent.

Shop Drawings, Submittals & As-Built Support

• Review civil shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements under supervision.
• Ensure compliance with design intent, specifications, and authority requirements.
• Assist in preparing technical comments and tracking submittal status.
• Verify that approved shop drawings and materials are correctly implemented on site.
• Support preparation and validation of civil as-built drawings and records.

Technical Queries, RFIs & NCR Support

• Assist in preparing responses to RFIs, Technical Queries (TQs), and site clarifications.
• Support investigation and close-out of NCRs, observations, and quality issues.
• Coordinate with the Senior Civil Engineer to resolve technical and coordination issues.
• Maintain records of technical correspondence and site decisions.

Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate with site engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers on civil and infrastructure matters.
• Interface with other disciplines (Structural, Architectural, MEPF, etc.) for coordinated delivery.
• Attend coordination meetings and provide updates to senior team members.
• Ensure proper use of project workflows and document control systems.

Learning & Continuous Improvement

• Develop knowledge of civil and infrastructure systems, including roads, drainage, and utilities.
• Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Seek guidance from senior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing.
• Promote best practices in civil construction quality and execution.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Industry / Domain

• Design & Build infrastructure and construction projects
• Civil works including roads, pavements, drainage, utilities, and external works
• Multidisciplinary coordination across design and construction phases

Necessary Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum 4-7 years of relevant experience in civil engineering within construction or design-build environments
• Experience supporting infrastructure works such as roads, utilities, and external works
• Basic understanding of multidisciplinary coordination and construction workflows
• Familiarity with shop drawings, RFIs, and site execution processes
• Good command of English (written and spoken)

Education and Certification Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Professional certification is an advantage but not mandatory

Job Specific and Technical Skills

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or similar tools
• Ability to read and interpret civil and infrastructure drawings and specifications
• Basic understanding of levels, grading, drainage, and utility coordination
• Ability to produce basic drawings, sketches, and redlines to support site delivery
• Good organizational and documentation skills
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
