SUMMARY

• Responsible for preventing and reducing Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) among patients, visitors, and staff, and for coordinating the facility Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program in accordance with GDIPC/MOH requirements, accreditation standards, scientific references, internal policies, and approved governance structures.
• The role leads and coordinates IPC risk assessment, annual planning, surveillance, data analysis, reporting, consultation, education, audits, outbreak response, communicable disease reporting, and corrective action follow-up to maintain a safe dialysis care environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, implement, and periodically review the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program, annual plan, priorities, and policies based on Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA).
• Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health (MOH), General Department of Infection Prevention and Control (GDIPC), Weqaya, CBAHI, applicable international standards, and approved USRC policies.
• Conduct infection surveillance using approved methodologies and monitor dialysis-related infection indicators and transmission risks.
• Analyze surveillance and audit data, identify trends, and recommend performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintain IPC evidence files, surveillance records, audit schedules, committee reports, corrective action plans (CAPA), and closure evidence.
• Report IPC performance indicators, surveillance findings, and significant risks to the IPC Committee, QAPI, leadership, and regulatory authorities, including escalation when required.
• Report communicable diseases and notifiable events through approved MOH reporting channels.
• Conduct IPC audits, environmental rounds, and infection control risk assessments.
• Oversee infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, sharps safety, waste management, environmental cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, safe injection practices, and dialysis station turnover practices.
• Oversee environmental hygiene activities and identify infection risks within clinical and support service areas, including kitchen environments.
• Investigate outbreaks, exposure incidents, and significant IPC risks, and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
• Oversee staff screening, immunization, occupational exposure management, and post-exposure activities in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Provide IPC orientation, education, consultation, and technical guidance to staff, patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing, laboratory, housekeeping, biomedical, dietary, HR, and operational teams to support IPC activities and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure IPC responsibilities, protected time, and resources are appropriately documented and allocated in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Full-Time IPC Assignment: An IPC Nurse designated as a Full-Time IPC Practitioner shall be assigned exclusively to Infection Prevention and Control activities and shall not be considered part of the routine nursing staffing allocation or assigned routine patientcare, dialysis, staffing-coverage, or other non-IPC duties.
• Solid Line - Head Nurse: Responsible for administrative matters, including attendance, leave, scheduling, timesheets, and daily administrative coordination.
• Dotted Line - Clinical Services Director: Responsible for functional oversight of the IPC program, including surveillance, audits, MOH reporting, training, technical guidance, and IPC performance evaluation.
• Medical Director: Provides clinical governance and escalation support as required.
• Perform other duties related to the Infection Prevention and Control Program as assigned.
• The position shall not be assigned routine patientcare, dialysis shift, staffing-coverage, or other non-IPC responsibilities where the position is designated as a full-time IPC Practitioner

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

Education Requirements:

• Registered Nurse (RN) with Bachelor or High Diploma Degree in Nursing (for Non-Saudi candidates).
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or two (2) years Associate Degree/Diploma in Nursing (for Saudi candidates).
• Infection prevention and control education, training, or certification is required/preferred according to the approved role assignment and regulatory requirements.

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum two (2) years of training and experience in dialysis.
• Minimum one (1) year of relevant IPC experience, or completion of an applicable IPC certification/training pathway accepted by MOH/GDIPC.

Other Requirements:

• Current Registered Nurse Licensure from a country of origin.
• Certified and registered with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties is required.
• Certified in BLS from Saudi or American Heart Association and preferably in ACLS
• Successfully passed the hemodialysis training program is an advantage.
• Passed color vision or color blindness test.
