About The Bean Play Cafe
The Bean Play Café is a welcoming place where children can explore, families can connect and grown-ups can enjoy a good coffee and a moment to relax.
Our promise-Play • Connect • Relax-shapes everything we do. From imaginative play and creative activities to quality café favourites and family celebrations, we bring together experiences that make a visit enjoyable for the whole family. We want children to feel curious and confident, and parents and caregivers to feel comfortable, included and cared for.
We believe our people will make the difference. Thoughtful spaces and engaging activities set the scene; our team brings The Bean to life. It happens through a warm welcome, remembering a favourite drink, helping a hesitant child join an activity or noticing when a family needs a little extra support.
We are looking for people who take pride in those moments: people who are attentive, dependable, playful and ready to help. Whatever your role, you will contribute to a safe environment, thoughtful service and a business that families want to return to.
At The Bean, everyone hosts, everyone sells and everyone supports. That means making people feel welcome, recommending experiences they will enjoy and helping colleagues deliver on our promise-with safety and service always coming first.
Your role
Joining The Bean means helping build something from the beginning. As part of our pioneering team, you will help shape our culture, bring ideas to life and create the experiences that families associate with The Bean.
Every team member contributes to our success and plays an active part in growing our community. We are looking for outgoing, approachable people who enjoy starting conversations, connecting with families and making others feel included. You should be willing to take initiative, support colleagues and represent The Bean with confidence and enthusiasm.
Your role will also include opportunities to take The Bean beyond the café through external events, pop-ups, private celebrations and community activities. Depending on your role and training, you may help set up an event, welcome guests, serve café favourites, promote our experiences or lead entertainment.
Working with the founders and management team, you will have a voice in how we improve and grow. As the business expands, there will be opportunities to develop new skills and take on greater responsibility, based on your contribution, readiness and business needs.
What you will do
· Help grow The Bean community through engaging programmes, memorable celebrations and positive relationships with families.
· Plan and lead entertainment delivery at external events, pop-ups and private or corporate celebrations.
· Coordinate event preparation, team briefings, equipment, setup and resets, maintaining safety and service standards throughout.
· Work with the Café Manager and founders to develop new activities and event experiences that support business growth.
· Coach an outgoing, confident team capable of representing The Bean inside and outside the café.
· Develop people and delivery standards that can support future locations and a growing events business.
· Allocate hosts to zones and activities; manage capacity, relief and handovers against approved operating limits.
· Complete play readiness checks, isolate unsafe equipment, escalate incidents and verify required clearance before reopening.
· Coach and assess hosts, maintain training records and coordinate activity and party quality.
· Plan materials, resets and activity schedules; coordinate with café and reception so play, food and bookings remain aligned.
· Host play, activities and parties directly; help reception or café only when a competent person accepts entertainment oversight and every zone remains covered. Act as duty manager only with additional written sign-off.
· Coordinate workshops, party delivery and membership advocacy; identify suitable additional experiences and relay qualified leads. Match sales promises to actual capacity and delivery resources.
What you bring
· Hands-on entertainment leadership: Experience leading a team in play, leisure, children’s activities or another family-facing environment.
· Visible, outgoing leadership: You are confident welcoming families, engaging groups and setting an enthusiastic, professional example for hosts.
· Strong safety judgement: You can plan supervision, manage capacity, recognise hazards and respond calmly when activities need to change or stop.
· Event planning and delivery skills: You can coordinate hosts, equipment, materials, timings, setup and pack-down for events inside and outside the café.
· Confidence leading external experiences: You are comfortable taking responsibility for entertainment at pop-ups, community events and private or corporate celebrations.
· Creativity with commercial awareness: You can develop engaging activities that suit the audience, available resources and business objectives.
· The ability to build community: You develop positive relationships with families and partners and use their feedback to strengthen our programmes.
· Coaching and coordination skills: You give clear briefings, develop host confidence and work closely with café and reception colleagues to deliver what has been promised.
· Ownership and growth potential: You are excited to work with the Café Manager and founders, establish repeatable standards and develop broader responsibility as The Bean expands.
Experience opening an operation, developing activity programmes or supervising external events is a strong advantage.
