About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Sustainability Engineer to join our project team in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in sustainability, green building, energy efficiency, and environmental performance within large-scale construction and development projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and monitoring sustainability strategies throughout the project lifecycle, coordinating with design consultants and contractors, and ensuring compliance with applicable sustainability standards, project requirements, and Saudi regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the implementation of sustainability strategies across the project lifecycle.
• Develop, implement, and monitor project sustainability plans, targets, and performance indicators.
• Coordinate sustainability requirements with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Review design proposals and technical submissions to ensure compliance with project sustainability objectives.
• Monitor the integration of energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, sustainable materials, and environmental performance measures.
• Support the achievement of applicable green building certifications, such as LEED, Mostadam, BREEAM, or other project-specific sustainability frameworks.
• Coordinate sustainability assessments, documentation, submissions, and certification requirements.
• Monitor project performance against established sustainability targets and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Review material submittals and construction practices to ensure compliance with sustainability requirements.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to verify implementation of sustainability measures.
• Coordinate with contractors to ensure proper implementation of environmental and sustainability requirements during construction.
• Monitor energy and water consumption, waste generation, recycling, and other relevant sustainability performance indicators.
• Prepare sustainability reports, dashboards, compliance reports, and performance updates for project management.
• Identify sustainability risks, gaps, and opportunities and recommend appropriate corrective and improvement measures.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Saudi regulations, Saudi Building Code (SBC), environmental requirements, and applicable project standards.
• Support project teams in implementing sustainable construction practices and minimizing environmental impacts.
• Coordinate with relevant authorities, certification bodies, and specialist consultants when required.
• Participate in sustainability workshops, design reviews, technical meetings, and project coordination meetings.
• Maintain accurate records of sustainability documentation, assessments, calculations, reports, and certification evidence.
• Support commissioning, handover, and post-occupancy sustainability requirements as applicable.
• Perform any other sustainability-related duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, Sustainability, or a related field.
• Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability engineering, green building, environmental performance, or sustainable design/construction.
• Proven experience in large-scale mixed-use development projects is highly preferred.
• Current experience in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is required/preferred.
• Strong knowledge of sustainable design, construction, energy efficiency, water efficiency, and environmental management.
• Experience with recognized green building rating systems such as LEED, Mostadam, BREEAM, or equivalent.

• Strong knowledge of sustainability principles and green building practices.

• Ability to review architectural, structural, MEP, and infrastructure designs from a sustainability perspective.
• Strong understanding of energy modelling, water efficiency, renewable energy, and environmental performance is an advantage.
• Knowledge of sustainable materials and construction practices.
• Experience with sustainability assessments, audits, and certification processes.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant sustainability/project management tools.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
