CICS Operator

Position: CICS Operator / System Administrator - L1

Experience: 8-15 years

Work Model: 24x7 Shift Support

Location: As per project requirement

Role Purpose

• Provide first‑level (L1) operational support for CICS environments
• Ensure system availability and quick response to incidents
• Follow standard runbooks and escalation procedures

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor CICS regions, transactions, queues, and system alerts
• Perform daily operator activities such as console commands and message handling
• Monitor jobs and coordinate with batch scheduling teams
• Handle initial incident response including region restarts and basic checks
• Execute basic CICS commands (CEMT) for status checks and start/stop actions
• Monitor files, queues, and transaction status
• Coordinate with DB2, Control‑M, and middleware teams during issues
• Support DR activities including region startup and failover execution
• Escalate issues to L2 teams with proper details and logs
• Maintain shift handover reports and incident logs

Required Skills

• Strong working knowledge of CICS and z/OS operations
• Hands‑on experience with mainframe operator activities
• Familiarity with console operations and batch job monitoring
• Understanding of incident management and escalation process
• Exposure to monitoring tools such as Omegamon or MainView is an advantage
• Ability to follow runbooks and standard operating procedures

KPIs / Performance Measures

• Incident response and resolution time
• CICS system availability
• Quality and timeliness of escalations
• Accuracy of shift reports and incident documentation

Profile Requirements

• 8-15 years of experience in mainframe operations or support roles
• Experience in 24x7 production support environments
• Good communication and coordination skills
• Willingness to work in rotational shifts
