The Control Room Desk Operator is responsible for the continuous monitoring, controlling, and coordination of operational activities in the control room of a combined cycle power station. This role involves ensuring optimal performance of power generation systems while adhering to grid dispatch instructions and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). The operator will work collaboratively with other team members and departments to maintain safe and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring & Control:
- Continuously monitor all aspects of power generation systems, including gas turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and auxiliary systems including electrical HV operations
- Operate and adjust control systems to optimize plant performance, ensuring compliance with operational limits and efficiency targets
- Dispatch Coordination:
- Communicate and coordinate dispatch instructions from the Load Dispatch Centre (LDC) and ensure timely implementation of such directives
- Adjust generation levels according to real-time demand while adhering to the terms outlined in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)
- Data Recording & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of operational parameters, performance metrics, and generation data
- Prepare and submit reports regarding plant performance, operational incidents, and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow established safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel
- Participate in safety audits, drills, and training programs; report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor
- Support the Shift Charge Engineer in carrying out isolations and PTW preparation
- Act a Emergency response team member
- Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:
- Identify and diagnose operational issues in collaboration with technical staff and field operators
- Implement corrective actions and recommend improvements to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and operational teams to support overall plant performance and reliability
- Provide training and guidance to junior operators and new staff as required
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations, safety standards, and operational guidelines
- Participate in reviews and inspections to uphold compliance with industry standards
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma preferably Mechanical or Electrical discipline
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of total professional experience
- 3+ yrs as CCR Operator in O&M of Combined Cycle Power Plants
- Siemens GT based CCGT exp is preferred
Technical Knowledge:Strong understanding of combined cycle power generation processes, including a solid grasp of regulatory considerations and contractual obligations under a PPA.
Languages:Proficiency in English is essential; knowledge of Arabic is advantageous.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Ability to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment, capable of managing emergency situations effectively
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by operational needs
- Demonstrated experience with control room operations and familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS)

- Work is primarily performed in a control room environment, with occasional visits to plant facilities
