Description
Job Purpose:
Aids in the collection, processing, distribution and storage of human blood and its components intended for transfusion. Check specific elements of procedures in order to determine whether or not certain steps are being performed with established limits of acceptability which includes Quality Control of blood and blood components, equipment, reagents procedures.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Blood donor interview, selection and testing.
- Blood donor collection, processing and preparation of the blood components such as packed RBCs, Fresh Frozen Plasma, Platelet concentrate and Cryoprecipitate.
- Selection of blood components, pre-transfusion tests and compatibility testing, Issue of blood components.
- Operates the Apheresis Machines which includes the following procedures Red Cell Exchange and Therapeutic Plasma Exchange using Optia Apheresis Machine; Platelet Collection in blood donors using Trima Apheresis machine.
- Documentation of transfusion complications evaluation, detection and reporting.
- Performed blood grouping, Antibody screen and Identification, Warm absorption, Acid Elution, RH Phenotyping, Coombs tests, Antibody Titer, Cold Agglutinins, Apt’s Tests, Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia test and ABO-Rh verification.
- Performs daily, weekly and Monthly QC of tube reagents, gel cards, DayMate S reagents and blood components.
- Do machine and instrument cleaning and decontamination maintenance.
- Checks blood donor screening results and deferral.
- Performs Nucleic Acid Amplification Technique for blood donors. Do NAT machine maintenance and QC.
- Do system blood components defragging and ISBT label for blood components.
- Relays result critical values as per policy.
- Do Occurrence variance reporting (OVR) in the system or in the manual form.
- Educates patients and their families about health conditions, treatments and preventative measures if applicable.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility of the job such as proficiency testing, and requirements for national and international accreditation standards.

Requirements
Skills and Abilities:
Good computer skills, Self-Motivated and with good sense of responsibility.
Experience
0 - 3 years’ experience as Medical Technologist in Blood Bank
Education
Bachelor degree of Medical Technology, Medical Science, or equivalent education in Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Biological Science
Language
Fluency in written & spoken English & Arabic
Licenses / Certifications
License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority e.g. (SCFHS / DHA)
