Reporting to the NDE Engineer, this role is responsible for performing Ultrasonic Testing on cast and forged components to detect internal discontinuities, ensuring full compliance with client specifications, internal quality procedures, international codes, and TCF EHSS safety regulations. The role is critical for verifying the structural integrity of high-stress parts and supporting cross-functional NDT activities including RT, MT, PT, and VT.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and execute the day-to-day Ultrasonic Testing inspection schedule for production lines
- Maintain NDE Shop inventory stocks for NDE consumables required for day-to-day operations
- Prepare detailed UT Scan Plans and Technique Sheets based on relevant code standards including ASME, ASTM, and EN, as well as specific customer requirements, to ensure 100% volumetric coverage
- Coordinate and explain techniques to third-party inspectors, customers, and auditors during UT audits or inspections
- Recommend verification block preparation in accordance with job requirements, materials, and applicable specifications
- Perform daily verification checks for NDE methods and carry out preventive maintenance on transducers, cables, and flaw detectors to ensure system reliability
- Set up and calibrate NDE equipment and probes, including the use of calibration blocks to verify range, velocity, and sensitivity in accordance with written instructions and technique sheets
- Create and evaluate Distance Amplitude Curve (DAC) and Distance Gain Size (DGS) curves for existing blocks and technique sheets
- Ensure component surfaces are cleaned prior to inspection, removing scale, slag, or roughness in accordance with specific technique sheets to ensure optimal sound transmission
- Evaluate and interpret ultrasonic signals to characterise discontinuities such as porosity, shrinkage, cracks, and laps based on applicable acceptance criteria
- Maintain detailed UT inspection logs and upload reports to the MES system
- Maintain accurate records of calibration, inspection logs, scan plans, data files, and inspection results, ensuring full traceability to specific melt or heat numbers, and upload to the MES system
- Arrange materials in designated safe locations and ensure the shop floor remains compliant with EHSS protocols
- Ensure all inspection activities comply with applicable international standards including ASTM A609, EN ISO 12680, ASTM A388, and EN ISO 10228-3, as well as specific customer technical specifications
- Participate in cross-functional NDT operations including RT, MT, PT, and VT when required to support the overall production schedule and quality flow.
